A repot is a soil decision plus a few minutes of cutting, and the soil half is settled almost entirely by particle size and hardness. Aggregates are sold by grain: three to six millimetres for small pots and shallow trays, around a quarter inch for anything with depth, and mixing grades carelessly is how you end up with a pot that stays wet in the middle and dries at the rim.
