What we liked
- + 30 or more seeds of Acer palmatum, enough to stratify in two batches and compare the results
- + Listing states that the seed benefits from cold stratification and that growing instructions are included
- + Japanese maple is a staple deciduous bonsai species with fine branching and strong seasonal color
Trade-offs
- - Seedling maples vary in leaf color, so red foliage like the listing photo is not guaranteed from seed
- - The listing suggests growing indoors, but Japanese maple is a hardy outdoor tree that needs winter dormancy
